The service is led by Dr Nimit Goyal, an experienced Consultant Radiologist with over a decade of practice in South Wales and specialist training in both vascular and non-vascular interventional radiology. Dr Nimit Goyal is a Consultant Interventional Radiologist with a strong commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care. He leads the Interventional Radiology (IR) service at Gwent, where he has been instrumental in developing a culture of excellence, innovation, and clinical leadership. Under his stewardship, Gwent IR has been designated a British Society of Interventional Radiology (BSIR) Exemplar Site and is an IASIOS-enrolled centre, reflecting its adherence to internationally recognised standards of quality and safety in interventional radiology practice.
Dr Goyal maintains an active academic and research portfolio alongside his clinical work. He is the Chief Investigator for the GO Wales trial, which is evaluating the role of genicular artery embolisation (GAE) in the management of knee osteoarthritis, contributing to the growing evidence base for minimally invasive image-guided therapies in musculoskeletal disease. His research interests are closely aligned with service development and improving outcomes for patients through evidence-based innovation.
His leadership and contributions have been recognised through multiple prestigious awards, including the NHS Wales Award 2025, the MediWales Innovation Award 2024, and the Aneurin Bevan University Health Board Staff Award 2024. These honours reflect his dedication to advancing interventional radiology services, fostering multidisciplinary collaboration, and championing high-quality, compassionate care for the communities he serves.
